TOTAL WORKPLACE HEALTH SOLUTION

Total Worker Health™ (TWH) is the integration of worker well-being with workplace safety and health principles. Total worker health supports a more holistic-centered approach to the health and safety of workers.  Interventions focus on both work-related safety risk prevention factors and health promotion.  Traditional safety and health are used to mitigate the risk of injury and illness in the workplace. Well-being is more than the absence of disease and injury, but rather it is characterized by happiness and the ability to live well.

TWH was originally introduced by the National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH) and trademarked in 2011.  WHI will create a strategy to implement TWH interventions that address both injuries and chronic disease reduction for your company.  The result is a healthier, more engaged and productive workforce and more profits for the company.

Health Promotion/Wellness Program

Has your company been hosting a wellness program only to continue to see your health care dollars rise?  You may be lacking a total employee population health model.  At WHI, we focus on creating wellness systems that influence the culture of your workforce.  This results in employees wanting to participate and making the necessary changes to create optimal health.

Our consultants have an astute understanding of health and productivity issues.  Issues that can cost your company thousands of dollars in lost work time, disease, and medical costs. Implementing health promotion programs with the right approach can minimize risk, improve morale, and reduce claims costs. Along with supporting Management and Wellness Committees, our team will help strategize the best program development.  Services can include health coaching, biometric testing, wellness team organization and management, health fair coordination, and on-site staffing.

Transitional Work Program

Getting injured workers back to work quickly and safely is the goal following any work-related injury. A transitional work program uses actual job duties to acclimate injured workers’ with temporary medical restrictions, in order to gradually return them to their original job status. Returning an injured worker to the job as soon as safely possible, before they are 100% recovered, lowers your overall health care and workers’ compensation costs, and also improves your bottom line.

It’s a defined return on your most valuable asset - your employees. The program may also include on site therapy tailored to the injured worker. Transitional Work Programs can help your company lower its direct and indirect human resources and health care costs. WHI offers developers certified by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (Ohio BWC) to create a Transitional Work Program that serves to enhance your safety culture.

MEDICAL DISABILTY MANAGEMENT

We are seeing an aging workforce across America.  Along with aging, often comes disease and disability.  Medical disability of workers negatively affects the employers’ bottom line. Medical expenses are just a small part of the overall impact of chronically ill workers. At WHI, we deliver an integrated approach that keeps workers productive, well and at work.

Properly managing time away from work for non-occupational conditions can have a positive effect on the productivity costs when integrating the employee back to work.  Often FMLA and STD cases can seem confusing and challenging.  Having a health care professional involved can mitigate unnecessary disability and lost time.

Strategies may include transitional work, gradual or monitored return to work.  Creating procedures to involve an occupational health provider that is familiar with your specific work environment can be of benefit as well.

Workers’ Compensation Risk Management

There is nothing more frustrating than those times when employees get injured on the job.  It is challenging for the employee as well as the supervisor and management team. It is especially exasperating if the worker cannot return to work.  In fact, inappropriate lost time from work can be costlier than even the medical treatment!  Our team of occupational health and safety specialists will work to create the best protocols for not only preventing injuries from happening, but for assuring a timely return to gainful employment.  We are not an insurance company nor an MCO – we work directly with the employer, for the employer, to create systems you can use to manage your own best practices.

Services include, but are not limited to, the development of Injury and Illness programs, case management, and on-site first aid and therapy services.  Contact us to learn more about how WHI can save your company time, money and frustration.

Mental Health First Aid Certification

Mental Health Aid is an 8-hour training course designed to give participants key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as a CPR training helps a non-medical professional assist an individual following a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid training helps an individual who doesn't have clinical training assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis, such as contemplating suicide.

The evidence behind the program demonstrates that those who attain certification identify, understand, and more positively respond to signs of mental illness. WHI offers instructors, specializing in workplace health and safety and certified in Mental Health First Aid to ready your workforce in case of a mental health crisis.

FAQ

+ What is meant by Total Employee Population Health?

Considering an employee population from just a Human Resources or Safety or Disability or Workers’ Compensation perspective will not result in the best practices and save your company the most money on health care costs. Depending on your company’s particular challenges, Total Employee Population Health methods will integrate aspects of employee engagement to best address cost drivers.

+ How does the team at WHI differ from other companies we may have worked with that have promised to save us money?

WHI consultants are occupational health and safety professionals who have worked in industry, health care and office environments and have obtained results in improving the safety, occupational health and well-being of employed populations. Our whole focus is helping employers ‘mind their money’ through effective cost-effective programming that ultimately benefits employees as well.

+ What is unique about how WHI provides services that can provide cost effective solutions for employers?

Our services are purposefully not tied to any type of premium paid vendors; as some are. WHI works directly with the employer, for the employer, side by side to create systems that function in parallel to the systems you use to manage your own best practices. (If you are interested in a percentage of savings arrangement, we’d be happy to discuss that.)
